Clement's Story:
July 18, 2007 was a sunny summer day in Montreal,
Canada, where Clement was visiting his cousin. The
day started out like any other summer day for a
14 year old. Sleeping in, and then going outside
to play in the sun. It was warm that day, so they
decided to take a swim. They were outside his uncle’s
house, jumping, diving, and swimming for about 3
hours or so, when Clement took the wrong angle on
a dive. He jumped, and then immediately felt a jolt.
He sank and waited for someone to save him. His
mother was the first to his rescue, and the paramedics
were called. Clement remembers it was hard to breathe
and that he couldn’t move. He was taken to
Montreal Children’s Hospital where he spent
two weeks, before he went back home to France. He
went to 2 different rehabilitation centers in France
over the span of 8 months, where they focused on
working on his biceps and shoulders. During those
8 months, his Uncle researched SCI recovery and
found that he could work out at a facility close
to his home. Clement was excited to come to the
United States. It was a new experience, and he could
put to use the English he was learning in school,
and work on getting better.
So far Clement is happy with his progress. He
has made great improvements in his core strength
and he is continuing to improve his activities
of daily living. Clement states: “I definitely
recommend Journey Forward; it is a good place
where you can feel the progress.”
